The provision of accessible, high quality legal aid services to vulnerable women is at the core of ADAW International’s mandate. Women are disproportionately affected by poverty; ADAW International’s provision of legal services to these marginalized groups addresses poverty directly, by enabling them to have access to land and economic opportunities that they are routinely denied due to discriminatory cultural practices and values....

ADAW Internatonal is a key leader in the generation of cutting edge research on various dimensions of human rights of women in Uganda and beyond. Our ground breaking research areas include: legal analysis of laws, policies and bills, baselines on new areas of interest for ADAW International, impact of laws on specific target groups, underlying determinants of human rights violations of women and traditional/informal justice systems including alternative dispute mechanisms among others.

Land in Uganda belongs to the citizens of Uganda but only 16% of women out of the total population own land and the remaining 84% is owned by men as per the land registration records. This is the situation despite the fact that women are the main users and contributors to the total agricultural produce in the Country although normally the proceeds are always still owned and controlled by the men ....

Disadvantages and discriminations faced by women and girls in Uganda severely limits their ability to lift themselves out of poverty, as a result, women are more likely to work in informal, low wage jobs with exploitation and unequal working conditions and have restricted access to affordable quality financial services like a savings account or small loan .....

Sexual and reproductive health is related to multiple human rights, including the right to life, the right to be free from torture, the right to health, the right to privacy, the right to education, and the prohibition of discrimination. This means that States have obligations to respect, protect and fulfill rights related to women’s sexual and reproductive health.....
